Our community reforestation program
Location:
The community reforestation project is developed near Ipiales in the Department of Nariño. At 3,000 meters high. The city and the surrounding municipalities have about 200,000 inhabitants. In 2019, 30% of the city suffered a water outage for 1 to 2 months in some neighborhoods, due to climate change and degradation of the forest ecosystem and the paramos, where water is normally retained.

Community associations and beneficiaries:
The beneficiaries of the project are the inhabitants of the municipalities and the indigenous shelters of the Ipiales region. Communities noticed the decline in water resources and expressed a willingness to reforest areas where “water is born”. In early 2020, five indigenous and farmer associations of pasto origin participated in the nursery network of Impulso Verde and are responsible for planting activities, representing an annual production capacity 200,000 trees.

Our goal is to engage and bring together more communities to produce and plant more than 1,000,000 native trees in the coming years.
The five community associations are:
- “Pumamaki Indigenous Agroecological Association” “of the municipality of Guachucal
- “Sinshimaki Indigenous Agroecological Association” of the municipality of Cumbal
- “Agroforestry Association of Aldanian Women” of the municipality of Aldana
- ” Agroecological Association Manantial de Vida” of the municipality of Potosí
- “Indigenous Association of Entrepreneurial Women” of the municipality of Cumbal
