Vegetable oil training for the Green Impulse Nursery Network
El equipo Impulso Verde por fin tuvo la oportunidad de visitar la Red de Viveros en el Sur de Nariño después de ocho meses de confinamiento debidos a la pandemia. The Impulso Verde team finally had the opportunity to visit the Nursery Network in Southern Nariño after eight months of confinement due to the pandemic. During one week we held general meetings with each partner association sharing experiences and objectives for the end of 2020 and the coming years.
In addition, as part of the Alternative Economies project, Impulso Verde invited Hernando Ojeda, Cali’s expert in raw material transformation, particularly in vegetable oils and maceration of therapeutic plants.
The trained associations, Asociación Agroecológica Manantial de Vida, Vivero Agroforestal Sinchimaki and Asociación Puma-Maki were very pleased to have been able to experience the transformation of peanut, sesame and linseed seeds into virgin vegetable oils and maceration of aromatic herbs (marigold and chamomile). The next step for each association is to identify the presence of raw products in their community and what type of processing could be done to market them. The Sinchimaki association, for example, already has a small production of marigold in its nursery.
The trainings are part of the reforestation and alternative economies to deforestation project in Colombia, co-financed by the French Development Agency (AFD – Agence Française de Développement), in collaboration with Envol Vert Latin America, Up2green Reforestation and Forestever.
