Nariño united to plant trees and leave a green legacy for the planet!
Fourth “Sembratón”, Carlosama municipality, Macas village with the Asociación Indígena de la Mujer Emprendedora
.To honour the Pachamama and Inti Raymi, thousands of trees were planted in the fourth “Sembratón”; a massive reforestation initiative that joined together the forces of the Network of Plant Nurseries of the “Impulso Verde” Foundation and the Diocesan Social Pastoral Secretariat. For the sembraton thousands of volunteers came together from 9 municipalities – Cumbal, Guachucal, Ipiales, Pupiales, Córdoba, Carlosama, Aldana, Potosí and Puerres – located in the department of Nariño, Colombia;. The aim was to sow life and hope for future generations.

The fourth Sembratón planted more than 10,000 trees in 9 municipalities of Nariño, Colombia, impacting 23 villages and creating a new green corridor of more than 10 kilometers on June 22, 2024.

The initiative involved the participation of 200 families from the Impulso Verde’s Network of Nurseries, including 16 organizations where 70% of the members are women.

The Sembratón is a call to action for the preservation of the environment and a legacy for future generations
Edwin Orlando Piarpuezan, agronomist from the Impulso Verde Foundation, expressed the importance of reforestation: “We are contributing to nature, planting saplings that in the medium and long term will generate many benefits to the plots that are degraded”. More than 10,000 trees were planted, transforming 23 villages into a new green lung of hope and reforesting more than 10 kilometers.
“We are 300 people from the Social Pastoral who joined together with the agro-ecological schools and the community in order to plant ten thousand trees at various strategic points. This event is crucial for reforestation and the creation of environmental awareness” María del Carmen Rosero, from the Social Pastoral expressed
The fourth Sembratón was not only a day of planting, but also a day to strengthen the social and environmental fabric of the participating communities. 200 families from the network of nurseries of the Impulso Verde Foundation – made up of 16 organizations where 70% of the members are women– contributed their knowledge and effort to the success of the initiative

“What motivates me is to leave a legacy for future generations; that they preserve nature by reforesting and not cutting down trees. Let’s continue planting trees to take care of our planet” said Adrián Imbacuan, owner of one of the properties that benefited from the planting, expressing his emotion.
“We plant these trees to help the environment. To have native trees so that we don’t lack water and to protect nature, which has been destroyed.” said José Alirio Nasate, from the Macas Providencia village in Carlosama, emphasizing the main objective.
Rosalba Cumbalaza, of the Asociación indigena de la Mujer Emprendedora, called for action: “My message is a call to agroecology for our health, well-being and to be a good example for the new generations”
José Homero Chavisnan, another landowner that benefited from the sembraton also, expressed his gratitude: “I am very grateful for this dream come true. I encourage the people of this municipality to continue planting trees”
